Known as one of the largest and heaviest cargo planes in the world, the massive Ukrainian-built aircraft created excitement among plane spotters and travelers as it touched down in the country.

Reports say the aircraft travelled toward New Zealand after departing from Hawaii. Flight tracking updates showed the giant plane approaching the country before its scheduled landing in Auckland.

The aircraft reportedly features:

  • A height of around 21 metres
  • Four massive jet engines
  • Heavy-lift cargo capability for international freight missions

The AN-124 is often used for transporting cargo that standard commercial aircraft cannot handle.

The Antonov AN-124 is considered one of the world’s most powerful cargo aircraft. It was originally designed in Ukraine for strategic heavy transport missions and later became globally recognised for commercial freight operations.

Auckland Airport Confirms Private Freight Operation

The New Zealand Defence Force was reportedly not involved in the aircraft’s operation.
